CTEK CT14000 BATTERY CHARGER
Eight
Step Fully Automatic.
Electronic switch-mode battery charger for all 24 V lead-acid batteries,
28-300 Ah.
Maintenance charging, 28-500 Ah. |
FEATURES
• Eight-step fully automatic. • Revives, charges,
checks and maintains virtually all types of 24 V lead-acid batteries
(WET, MF, AGM and GEL) from 28 Ah to 300 Ah, up to 500 Ah maintenance.
• Desulphation mode with pulses. • Soft start for
severely discharged batteries. • Recondition mode with controlled
top charging recovers the capacity of a severely discharged battery.
• Maintenance charging with pulses for the batteries best performance
and service life. • Supply mode for use as a power pack,
battery backup (UPS) or float maintenance. • Charges even
almost totally drained batteries. • Temperature compensated
for optimal charging voltage at all times. • Low reverse
current, low ripple and input voltage independent (170-260 V).
• Can be connected for months, ideal for seasonal vehicles.
• Compact design with mounting brackets.
• 2 year warranty against manufacturing defects.
SAFETY FEATURES
• Electrically safe – normally there is no need to disconnect
the battery from the vehicle when charging.
• Minimal gas build-up and a patent-pending spark protection
system.
• Short circuit and reverse polarity protected.
• Splashproof/rainproof (IP 44) and approved for outdoor use.
• Thermally protected.
• Tested by SEMKO AB, in conformity with the following standards:EN60335-1,
EN60335-2-29 following the provisions of directive 73/23/EEC amended
by 93/68/EEC and EN55022, EN 61000-3-3, EN 61000-3-2, EN55014-2 following
the provisions of directive 89/336/EEC amended by 92/31/EEC and 93/68/EEC.
CHARGE CHARACTERISTIC
The MULTI XT 14000 charges and analyses in eight fully automatic steps.
1. Desulphation runs a complete charge cycle within a fraction
of a second. The cycle is repeated during the whole desulphation step.
Every cycle recovers some lead sulphate into useful material.
2. Soft Start tests the battery condition. Severly
discharged batteries needs the soft start step. The charging starts
with a reduced current (max 6 A) for 4 h until the voltage reaches
24 V.
3. Bulk is the main step where most of the charge
is returned (80%). The charger delivers maximum current (14 A) until
the terminal voltage has risen to the set level (or for max 20 h).
4. Absorption completes the charge up to virtually
100% at a constant voltage of 28.8 V at +25 °C. The current tapers
off until 4 h after the current reached the 2 A level. The step is
maximized to 12 h.
5. Analysis is a short intermission in the cycle
analysing the voltage drop, testing self-discharge. The voltage of
a defective battery will quickly drop. The charge cycle will be stopped
with a warning indication if voltage drops to 25.2 V in 2 minutes.
6. Recond is used to recover deeply discharged flooded
batteries. Recondition of deep discharged batteries suffering from
stratification. The voltage increases (to max 31.8 V) with reduced
current (3 A) for a limited time period (4 h), or for 30 minutes.
The higher voltage starts some gassing and mixing of the acid, which
is beneficial for both battery capacity and expected life. The battery
could emit explosive gas during this step.
7. Float is maintenance charge at constant voltage,
keeping the batteries at 100% charge. Normal charging mode are time-limited
(max 10 days) while Supply mode goes on indefinately.
8. Pulse is maintenance charge for maximum battery
life. Charging varies between 95% and 100% state of charge. The battery
receives a pulse, starting a new charge cycle, when voltage drops
to set limit. This keeps the battery in perfect condition when it
is not in use. The charger can be connected for months keeping the
batteries fresh.

BATTERY TYPES AND PROGRAMMING
The MULTI XT 14000 can easily be set for different types of lead-acid
batteries or conditions. With MULTI XT 14000 you can charge batteries
from 28 Ah to 300 Ah, up to 500 Ah maintenance.
TEMPERATURE PROTECTION
To protect the charger from overheating, the MULTI XT 14000 is equipped
with a power delimiter. At raised ambient temperatures output power
is reduced. The power will also be reduced if the charger should be
accidentally covered. In this way the charger is protected from damage.
The charger continues to operate but at a lower power output. When
the ambient temperature drops the power will automatically rise again.
TEMPERATURE COMPENSATION
The MULTI XT 14000 has got a sensor which automatically adjusts the
charging voltage if the temperature deviates from +25 °C. A high
temperature lowers the voltage and freezing conditions is handled
by higher voltage. The temperature is best measured on or very close
to the battery. The sensor should therefore always be placed as close
to the battery as possible when charging. The sensor cable could be
prolonged or cut to length with the same functionality.

* Back Current Drain is what is draining the battery if the charger
is connected without the power cord connected.
** Quality of the current and voltage is very important. A linear
charger produces a current with a high ripple. High current ripple
heats up the battery and makes the positive electrode to age prematurely.
High voltage ripple could harm other equipment, which is connected
to the battery. MULTI XT 14000 produces a high quality current with
very low ripple. There is no need to disconnect the battery from
the vehicle.
*** IP 44 cannot be guaranteed if the charger is not positioned
horizontally with the long side or top side turned up.
